If you’ve recently visited our cosmetic surgery center, you may have worked with Dr. Ishee. For the past year, Lafayette cosmetic surgeon Dr. J. Kevin Duplechain has overseen Dr. Ishee’s cosmetic surgery fellowship, and we are thrilled to share that he has joined our practice as a full-time associate surgeon! To celebrate the end of a successful fellowship and new role, we’re dedicating this post to getting to know Lafayette native, William Ishee, MD.
How Dr. Ishee got his start
Dr. Ishee began his medical career with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude—which is the highest academic distinction given by universities and awarded to only 1-3% of scholars. He continued his education at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport (LSUHS), where he excelled academically and earned multiple scholarship awards each year.
General surgery residency
His passion and natural affinity for surgery led him to a General Surgery residency at LSUHS, where he gained extensive experience across various specialties, including general surgery, trauma, complex wound management, breast surgeries, plastic surgery procedures, and more. During his residency, Dr. Ishee performed thousands of successful surgical procedures and earned certifications in endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery, as well as the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgical platform that provides surgeons with enhanced precision, control, and visualization during complex procedures.

Awards and leadership
His kind, patient-first approach was recognized with his induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, a community of healthcare professionals who have been honored for their compassionate care. Dr. Ishee’s approachability, enthusiasm, and superior quality of instruction also earned him the Superior Teaching Award.
Throughout his training, Dr. Ishee held numerous leadership positions, including serving as the administrative chief resident and participating in the General Surgery Residency Program Evaluation Committee and Utilization Review Committee.

Under the expert supervision of Dr. Duplechain, Dr. Ishee’s AACS-certified cosmetic surgery fellowship provided elite training in the latest aesthetic techniques and technologies. Dr. Duplechain is a former AACS President with over 20 years of experience in cosmetic medicine, giving Dr. Ishee invaluable insight as he perfected his surgical skills.
