Permanent Makeup
We all want to look and feel our best—and that takes time, and typically comes with a considerable price tag. At Laser SkinCare of Louisiana, we consider permanent makeup the holy grail of makeup innovation! Lafayette permanent makeup—a.k.a. lip tattooing or brow tattooing—offers personalized and long-lasting beauty enhancement without cluttering your counter or costing you time. Our permanent makeup artist, Lacie Zimmerman, can help you save time and money while you enjoy an effortlessly-enhanced look.
What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup is a specialized cosmetic technique that precisely implants high-quality, natural pigments into your skin to resemble makeup, such as eyebrow penciling or lip color enhancement.
How permanent makeup works
We use a sophisticated hand-held device that houses a single-use sterile needle or cluster of needles to apply permanent makeup. These puncture the skin in a swift, controlled motion to deposit color into your skin’s dermal layer.
With a pigment applied to the brows and lips, permanent makeup creates results that mirror the look of expertly applied conventional makeup.
Benefits of permanent makeup
Permanent makeup is a game-changer for several reasons:
- Saves time applying and removing daily makeup
- Enhances your natural features
- Alleviates application challenges for individuals with vision issues or motor impairments
- Remains unsmudged while sweating, swimming, and eating
- Minimizes imperfections such as scars, asymmetry, or pigmentation irregularities
Permanent makeup is also a simple solution if you want to feel a little more put together without the effort, or if you aren’t particularly skilled at makeup application but want to enhance your look. Many clients choose permanent makeup as a part of their bridal makeup routine to be photo-ready from engagement to honeymoon and beyond!
Who is a good candidate for permanent makeup?
Anyone who wants to simplify their beauty routine and feel more confident about their appearance is likely a candidate for permanent makeup. Part of your consultation involves a skin evaluation and review of your medical history to be sure permanent makeup can safely achieve your cosmetic goals.
Your treatment options
We offer several permanent makeup options for your brows and lips at the Laser SkinCare of Louisiana!
Powder Brows
The powder brows (also known as ombre brows) technique helps enhance your eyebrows by artfully shading in specific areas to subtly fill in your brows. It’s ideal to help your eyebrows appear fuller and more defined, and the semi-permanent results can last 2-4 years or longer for some clients.
Microblading
Microblading uses a feather-like stroke technique to create ultra-fine, hair-like lines to mimic the natural hairs in your brow. This semi-permanent technique is ideal for filling in gaps in hair growth, adding natural-looking volume to sparse brows, and creating a natural brow shape that complements your look. Microblading lasts about 2-3 years.
Combination Brows
Combining the powder brow technique with microblading is a very popular choice for a natural brow transformation. We’ll create a seamless brow look by adding “hairs” and fill in the perfect brow shape with brow powder for a natural look you don’t have to think twice about!
Lip Blushing
Lip blushing is the lip enhancement you didn’t know you needed! Not only does this technique enhance the beauty of the natural lip color, we can also deepen the lip blush color by adding more layers for a more dramatic effect. Lip blushing can also improve your lips’ natural shape and definition while creating the illusion of fullness for a naturally plump, youthful pout.
Preparing for your permanent makeup treatment
It’s best to refrain from direct sun exposure and stop using any skin irritants (like retinoids, acids, or exfoliants) on the area for at least a week before your treatment to avoid irritating sensitive skin. If you’re receiving a lip blushing treatment, we recommend gently exfoliating your lips and applying a moisturizing ointment regularly to ensure healthy lip tissue for about a week as well.
How do I choose the color for my permanent makeup?
Our permanent makeup specialist, Lacie, will help you choose a color that suits your skin tone and hair color to create a natural, enhanced look that beautifully complements your features.
How many sessions will I need?
The initial treatment is typically followed by a touch-up procedure about 3 months later to make any refinements. You may need an additional treatment based on your skin type and desired results—we’ll have a good idea of how many sessions you’ll need to achieve the look you want after your consultation.
What to expect from your permanent makeup procedure
Your safety and satisfaction are our top priority, and we want you to feel completely confident about your treatment! During your consultation, we’ll discuss your permanent makeup goals and carefully examine the treatment area. Once we understand your expectations, we’ll explain what procedure(s) will best achieve your goals and answer any questions you may have.
How is permanent makeup applied?
We’ll determine the precise depth to place the pigment, the needle configuration, and the machine speed based on your chosen treatment. Then, we apply a topical anesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable throughout your treatment. With your permanent makeup goals in mind, we’ll use a hand-help device to apply pigment to create beautifully natural results that mirror the look of expertly applied conventional makeup.
Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?
Most patients report the sensation as a slight prickle or tickle that is significantly less painful than expected, and the numbing cream helps minimize any discomfort.
Permanent makeup recovery & downtime
You can return to most normal activities immediately after the procedure; however, slight redness or swelling is common and usually subsides within a day or two, and the total healing process typically takes around 7-14 days. The color will appear darker for the first few days after your treatment but will lighten as your skin heals.
Permanent makeup aftercare
We’ll provide personalized after care instructions depending on the treated area, but all aftercare instructions typically include keeping the area clean, avoiding direct sun exposure, and refraining from picking at or rubbing the area.
Brow aftercare
We will ask you to apply the aftercare ointment twice a day with a clean Q-tip for 7-10 days and avoid any makeup in the area for at least 72 hours after permanent makeup treatments.
Lip aftercare
For lip procedures, apply the provided aftercare ointment several times daily for at least 14 days post-treatment. This helps prevent dryness and supports color retention.
Your permanent makeup results
Most patients can expect to enjoy their permanent makeup results for a few years; however, individual results will vary and can be impacted by several factors, including:
- Skin type: Permanent makeup on oily skin tends to fade faster.
- Lifestyle: Swimming and sweating may contribute to ink fading.
- Sun exposure: UV exposure can break down pigments more quickly.
- Skincare routine: Exfoliants and other products with active ingredients may fade tattoos faster.
Touch-up treatments to maintain results
Lafayette permanent makeup treatments are semi-permanent and will naturally fade over time, and periodic touch-up treatments allow us to perfect the look. We’ll add micropigmentation to areas that may have faded and make any adjustments your desire to the color or placement.
Permanent makeup FAQs
Is permanent makeup safe?
Absolutely. Laser SkinCare of Louisiana uses only the highest-quality, hypoallergenic tattoo ink. Our specialist, Lacie, is extensively trained and experienced in providing safe, precise permanent makeup applications. We also follow stringent sterilization protocols to ensure your safety during and after the procedure.
Can I have permanent makeup if I have sensitive skin or allergies?
Most people with sensitive skin or allergies do well with permanent makeup. The tattoo inks we use are typically hypoallergenic, and we can perform a patch test to make sure that you do not have an allergic reaction to the pigment.
What if I want to change my makeup look?
The goal of permanent makeup is to complement your natural beauty and is generally applied to look natural and understated. You can still apply traditional makeup over your permanent makeup for a more dramatic look or change the pigment color at your next maintenance appointment.
How much does cosmetic tattooing cost?
The cost of cosmetic tattooing service will depend on your personalized treatment plan and can range anywhere from $200 to $800 per session. We can give you a more precise estimate during your consultation.
Are there other skin treatments that pair well with permanent makeup?
Certainly, we offer several skin treatments at the Laser SkinCare of Louisiana to help you minimize imperfections and highlight your permanent makeup results:
- SkinPen microneedling, chemical peels, and Hydrafacials can enhance your skin’s overall texture and tone.
- Laser treatments offer more significant changes in the skin to improve signs of aging and more prominent skin blemishes for a more youthful appearance overall.
- BOTOX and dermal fillers can diminish lines and wrinkles and enhance your facial features for a cohesive transformation.
We are happy to discuss our extensive treatment services during your consultation if you want to experience more comprehensive cosmetic rejuvenation.
