SkinPen Microneedling Lafayette, LA
Unlock the power of your body’s natural healing response with microneedling
It’s a rare few who have perfect skin—but that doesn’t mean getting your most gorgeous skin is impossible. Microneedling has surged in popularity over the last few years, but this technique, also known as collagen induction therapy, has a long history of safe, effective treatment.
Here at Dr. Duplechain’s cosmetic surgery center in Lafayette, our team of experienced skin experts use the SkinPen microneedling device to help rejuvenate the skin, improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and reduce acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and other skin conditions—in addition to providing you with a healthy, natural glow. Because it’s all-natural, SkinPen is safe for all skin types and can be used on any part of the body.

How does microneedling work?
The SkinPen microneedling device stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal itself by creating a series of microscopic channels into the skin to help promote the production of collagen and elastin. Essentially, by creating controlled “micro-injuries” that are so small they do not lead to cellular damage, the wound-repair process is initiated and tissues are remodeled while leaving the overall structure of your skin intact.
Here’s what happens:
- Inflammation occurs when the skin is pierced by the tiny SkinPen needles, triggering your immune system to disinfect the injuries, remove debris, increase blood flow to the area, and begin creating new tissue.
- Next, the proliferation of granulation cells (part of the extracellular matrix) occurs, which rebuilds the wound and develops a new network of blood vessels.
- Finally, the remodeling of dermal tissues and blood vessels takes place.
After this process is complete, the influx of collagen and elastin gives your skin a firmer look, dull skin has been replaced by new, healthy skin cells, and surface blemishes are reduced in appearance.
What can microneedling treat?
Microneedling is an incredibly versatile treatment on its own, as well as being a fantastic foundation for combination therapies. In addition to providing an overall improvement in the health and appearance of your skin, microneedling can also be used to target specific concerns. SkinPen can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, and acne scars nearly anywhere on the body, including the face, neck décolletage, arms, hands, legs, stomach, and back.
The SkinPen device can be adjusted to customize treatment based on the thickness of your skin and specific goals. For example, superficial treatments for minor concerns or to revitalize dull skin may only require one or two treatments with the microneedles adjusted to a shorter length, whereas more severe concerns like acne scars would likely require deeper microneedle penetration and multiple treatments to see optimal results.
Does microneedling hurt?
While the idea of having small needles passed over your skin may sound alarming, when we say small, we mean small. The microneedles in the SkinPen device are thinner than a strand of hair! Patients report that while the process can feel slightly irritating or leave the skin feeling a bit tender, we can use a topical anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable throughout.
When performed by an experienced provider, microneedling has minimal side effects and downtime, with very slight swelling and a bit of pinkness in the treated area for a couple days being the most common. You should be able to resume most of your normal activities right after your treatment, as long as you follow your provided aftercare protocol.
How many microneedling treatments will I need?
This will largely depend on your personal concerns and goals. A single microneedling session can be a great option for giving your skin a pick-me-up after environmental damage or before an event but may not provide the results you want if you’re hoping to reduce signs of aging or minimize the appearance of scars. Typically, three to six sessions spaced a month apart can provide dramatic improvement.
The best way to determine how many microneedling treatments will be needed to give you optimal results is to schedule a consultation. Together, we can discuss your desired results, explore your options, and come up with the perfect treatment plan for you. Contact us today to get started!
