Your Consultation and Beyond
So you scheduled your consultation, but now what?
A consultation is equal parts interview, learning experience, and time to see the possibilities of what cosmetic surgery can achieve for you. We understand it can stir up a variety of emotions and want you to be as comfortable as possible. The following information should help to paint a picture of what you can expect from your consultation with our office (and beyond), but please don’t hesitate to reach out should any questions be left unanswered!
Parking information
Our office is located at 1103 Kaliste Saloom Road, Suite 300 in Lafayette, LA. Free parking is available on site, and our practice shares the parking lot with Heart Hospital of Lafayette (located on the right) and Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospitality (on the left). We are located on the 3rd floor of the 3-story medical office building located in the middle of the 2 hospitals.
Your consultation at our office
Prior to your consultation, you will receive an email or text link to complete forms in our patient portal. We ask that you please complete all requested information in its entirety prior to your appointment. Upon arriving at our office, please check in at the front desk. A valid state ID or identification card will be needed at time of arrival. Although most visits to our office are not filled or covered by medical insurance, you may be asked to provide a copy of your medical insurance card.

Your medical history
When you are called back to begin your appointment, you will first meet with one of our nurses, who will review your medical history and help you get settled. Be thorough and honest about your medical history, as well as any medications, supplements or recreational drugs you are taking—it’s crucial that we have an accurate picture to ensure your safety.
Once acquainted with your medical & health history, the nurse will begin the process of assessing you and your questions. She will want to know what your goals for surgery are, what specific changes you would like to see and help narrow down which procedure(s), if any, can help you achieve your goals. Photos from our Before & After Gallery will be shown to you in order for you to see real results performed by Dr. Duplechain.
“Before” photos
Also, please be prepared at your initial consultation for photos to be taken of you. Using 3D simulation software, our nurses will photograph you to get an idea of what your result can look like. The photos generally take 25-30 minutes to simulate and you will be able to see the photos once they are populated. Upon request, the photos can also be emailed to you for you to review or share with a loved one who may not be able to attend the consultation with you.
Meeting with Dr. Duplechain & your nurse
Throughout the consultation, you can also expect answers to specific questions, including what results you can expect from each procedure, what’s involved in the surgery (including anesthesia, incisions & recovery timeframe), and what are the risks and possible complications from surgery. During your consultation, you will meet Dr. Duplechain and be able to discuss with him any further questions or concerns you may have. If a nurse consultation is scheduled, you will have the opportunity to schedule a 2nd consultation in order to meet Dr. Duplechain. Again, we understand that cosmetic surgery can be an exciting & scary time, but it is very important to us that you are comfortable with not only Dr. Duplechain, but our staff & our facilities as well.
Your fee quote
Once the examination is completed with the nurse and Dr. Duplechain, you will meet with one of our business coordinators. They will have a detailed price quote for the procedure(s) you are considering. The quote will include Dr. Duplechain’s surgical fee, operating room costs, anesthesia fees as well as cosmetic insurance and any blood work or labs fees. You will have the opportunity to discuss payment and financing options.
Surgery is a serious consideration that should be given thought. We encourage second consultations if needed, and always require that you return for your pre-operative visit before surgery to ask any additional questions that may have come up and to review your surgical plan. When ready to proceed, the business coordinators are able to assist you with your deposit to reserve a surgery date and make any pre-operative appointments that are necessary. We look forward to meeting you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions prior to your consultation.
Virtual consultations for patients from out of town
In addition to in-person consultations for locals, we are happy to accommodate out-of-town patients for a thorough video meeting with Dr. Duplechain. Learn how consultations for out-of-town patients work here!
Pre-Op Process: Before surgery
During the initial consultation, an additional pre-operative visit will be scheduled to allow you to ask any questions you may have, as well as receive consents, prescriptions, and a detailed explanation of your procedure. This is performed by both Dr. Duplechain and his nurse coordinators.
Although you will receive specific and detailed instructions from Dr. Duplechain during your consultation and pre-operative visit, the following are some general rules to follow and expect:
- Patients should not eat past midnight the night before the scheduled procedure.
- Please arrive on time. The success of your procedure involves many people including nurses, the anesthesiologist and office personnel, as well as other patients.
- Patients are asked to wear comfortable clothing that will button or zip up the front.
- Please refrain from wearing make-up and jewelry to the procedure. Clothing will be secured, but please bring a small overnight bag if an overnight stay at Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital (LSSH) is planned.
- Patients are asked to continue on schedule with any medications they currently take, except for products such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory agents, and vitamin E. A specific list of these types of blood thinners, which may cause unnecessary bleeding during your procedure, will be provided.
- All prescribed medications should be reviewed at the time the procedure is scheduled.
- Patients are asked to provide the name of their designated driver before entering surgery. Obviously, no patient will be allowed to leave without a proper attendant; however, it is not necessary for the attendant or driver to be present during the procedure.
- Patients are required to have adult-supervised care for 24 hours after surgery.
Post-Op Process
The recovery process and its duration will vary from patient to patient, and it will also depend on the procedure performed. Following anesthesia, patients are observed for a minimum of 2 hours before being discharged to home or to Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital (LSSH) for a planned overnight stay. Some procedures, such as abdominoplasty, require an overnight hospital stay by the patient.
The day of your first post-operative visit may vary depending on the type of procedure performed, but you should expect to follow-up with Dr. Duplechain to check the progress of your recovery. In the meantime, Dr. Duplechain is always available by phone for any questions that you may have throughout the duration of your recovery.
Patients undergoing surgical procedures will be prescribed any necessary antibiotics and/ or pain medication. Please remember to follow Dr. Duplechain’s recommendations and do not self-prescribe medications, as these may be harmful.
